Obituary for Phillip Ellery

Phillip Ellery
Phillip Leigh Ellery (48), devoted husband and father, passed away at his home in Melbourne, FL on April 23, 2016 after a year’s valiant struggle with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. He was lovingly surrounded by his wife and children during his transition. Leigh was born on January 29, 1968 to John and Olive (Dann) Ellery in Kyneton, Australia. He graduated from The Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology in Melbourne, Australia and came to the United States in 1992 on a fellowship program with Rockwell Collins. He married Debbie “Deb” Salley in 1995 and they created four beautiful children and raised them in partnership. Leigh earned his Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from Florida Institute of Technology and, in 2002, obtained his U.S. citizenship. Leigh was an engineering manager at Rockwell Collins where he was employed for 24 years. An active member in his community, he volunteered and chaperoned at various schools and events, and coached youth soccer at Space Coast United Soccer Club for 13 years. Leigh was proud of his Australian heritage and charmed more than a few people with his endearing accent. He loved spending time at home with his family, travelling, hosting parties, and taking his beloved dogs, Sophie and Vandy, on bike runs. He found his passion in avionics and made a career of it. He was kind, selfless and incredibly generous to everyone. He was a wise and gentle spirit who instantly saw the good in any individual he encountered. Leigh was preceded in death by his father John Wesley Ellery. Leigh is survived by his wife Debbie and their four children: Wesley, Ben, Daniel and Grace; stepson Anthony, and granddaughter Reese. He is also survived by his Mother, Olive Ellery; brother John (Jen) Ellery; sister, Lynne (Michael) Pilbrow; nephews Josh Ellery, Luke Ellery, Matthew Pilbrow, and Nicholas Pilbrow; and niece Rebekah Pilbrow.

At Leigh’s request, there will be no service. A Celebration of Life will be held on June 5th, 2016 at a place and time to be determined.
