Obituary for Teresa Gunther

Teresa Ann (Teta)Gunther passed away at home in Indian Harbour Beach, Florida surrounded by her family and caregivers on March 6, 2017 at 90 years old. She was born August 4,1926. She was predeceased by her husband of 67 years, J. Robert Gunther and her daughter Claudia. She is survived by her son J. Robert Gunther, Jr., Mary (Mindy)Gunther, son in law Robert E. Drew and her son William G. Gunther. She has three grandchildren, William G Gunther, Jr., Kristen Gunther and Christopher Grant.

She was raised in Great Neck, Long Island, NY and studied art at the College of New Rochelle. While she was a talented artist, her life was fully occupied working with Bob in the family printing business, the George Schmitt & Co., Inc. and raising her four children.

Their lives were often adventurous, mostly spent on and around the water. When first married in 1947 they lived aboard a 46' wooden schooner on Long Island NY for several years until their third child came along. After Bob rowed ashore to go to work Teta was left with two very young children for the day.

They cruised extensively up and down the East Coast, as far north as Newfoundland and as far south as Puerto Rico. They also raced sailboats both locally and offshore to Bermuda and Halifax. Much of their boating was done with just the two of them aboard on their own boats which Teta varnished, painted and always maintained in Bristol fashion herself.

When Bob and Teta decided they wanted to fly their own plane to their plants around the country, they both got their pilots licenses. Teta was an active member of the Forty Niners for many years.

After living twenty six years in Guilford, Connecticut Bob and Teta decided to move to Puerto Rico in order to turn the family business over to the next family generation in 1986. There they ran Palmas Printing Co. for 15 years before moving and relocating the business to Florida

Teta will always be remembered by family, friends and most recently by her many caregivers with warmth and grace. Burial will be private in Guilford Connecticut. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to Hospice of Health First,6450 US Highway 1, Rockledge, FL 32955
