Obituary for Charles "Chuck" Scanlon

So appropriate that such a soldier and leader should die right after the Memorial Day Holiday! Major General Charles (Chuck) F. Scanlon,(US Army, ret) passed away May 30th surrounded by family and taking his last breath as we all said the Lord's Prayer. Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away…..and this soldier had many of those moments and he gave those special moments to so many….

He was an only child, born in Nashville, Tennessee on January 31st, 1935, to Frank and Dorothy Scanlon. He was raised in Miami, Florida. He leaves behind, his wife, who loved him so very much, Barbara Wall-Scanlon, and children, Teri Fede (David), Brett Scanlon, Ashlyn Neil, Kellie Scanlon, Lisa Wall, and Scott Wall DeSousa (Daniel), His grandchildren, Zachary Scanlon (Symantha), Samantha Fede (Phillip), Michael Fede, Andrew Scanlon, Sophia Neil, Raven Wall-Stringer, Jade Wall-Stringer, Dominic Campeau, Jr. and Capri Campeau. This beautiful and powerful man truly embraced being a "grandfather". He felt it was his role to share life experiences together and provide guidance, wisdom, support, and help to those young people in his life….for his children, the one constant in their life was the fact that each knew, he would always be there for them…for his wife, she always felt loved and protected.

He was a man who traveled to almost every country in the world and spoke many languages. He graduated from the University of Florida and earned his Master's at the University of Hawaii. Other degrees and certificates were earned at Harvard, Penn State, the Army Command and General Staff College and the Naval War College. He lived many places around the world in his life but he called Satellite Beach, FL and the Washington DC area home for many years.

MG Charles Scanlon led a distinguished military career with 35 years in the US Amy. He was inducted into the Military Intelligence Hall of Fame in 1995.
