Obituary for William Spiegelhalter

William Spiegelhalter
William “Bill” Spiegelhalter passed peacefully to his eternal reward on September 14, 2017, surrounded by his family and friends.
Bill was born in Kansas City, Missouri, on December 7, 1937, to William and Ruth Spiegelhalter. He graduated from De LaSalle Military Academy in 1954 and attended Benedictine College, Atchison, Kansas.
Bill began his working life with a variety of jobs, including hospital orderly and a court recorder. Starting his 37-year career with the telephone company as a cable splicer’s helper, he worked his way up to a corporate sales and marketing position with AT&T. His job moved him to many locations and finally brought him to Satellite Beach, Florida, prior to his retirement in the mid 1980’s.
Bill had many interests. In his younger years, he enjoyed piloting small planes and scuba diving. He even raised and showed Boxers at dog shows, most notably at Madison Square Garden. He was passionate about photography and all types of technology, including drones.
An active member of the Satellite Beach Police Department Citizens on Patrol, Bill performed patrol duties and served as a trainer of new volunteers. He was awarded the Satellite Beach Police Department Volunteer of the Year in 2011.
For the last four years, Bill and his wife Sharon have been volunteers for the Guardian ad Litem program, which advocates for children who have been removed from their parents. They advocated for over 20 children during this time. He was nominated by Eckerd Kids for Children’s Hero of the Year in 2016.
Very active at Immaculate Conception Church in Melbourne Beach, Florida, Bill was especially proud of initially creating the parish web site. His love for photography led him to commemorate many church functions in pictures. He was an Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharistic, and did Eucharistic Adoration for 15 years. As a supportive husband, he also was cherished as a “Choir Mascot”.
Anyone who knew Bill quickly learned that he had an endearing trait, his voracious sweet tooth.
He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Sharon; his daughter, Kimberly; two granddaughters, Danica and Kaylee; a great granddaughter, Daya; his siblings, Jim, Maryann, Jane, Albert, John, Mike, and Terry; and his two furkids, Raz and Allie. Bill was pre-deceased by a daughter, Laura Kay.
A funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, September 22nd, at Immaculate Conception Church, 3780 S. Highway A1A, Melbourne Beach, Florida. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Friends of Children of Brevard. To donate, please go to www.friendsofchildrenofbrevard.org.
