Charles F. Harris, 98, died on October 12, 2017 in Melbourne, FL.

Charles will be missed by his daughter, Jill Harris, and son-in-law Thomas Koet of Melbourne, FL; his grandson Trey Harris and wife Crista; and his great-grandsons Conner and Collin Harris of Orlando, FL. Charles was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Harris, and his son Charles F. Harris Jr.

Charles grew up in Cooleemee, NC with 10 siblings.

A veteran of World War II, Charles served 21 years as a Warrant Officer in the US Navy as an Aviation Ordnance Specialist, and was awarded five Good Conduct medals; National Defense Service Medal; World War II Victory Medal; American Defense Service Medal; American Campaign Medal; Navy occupations Service Medal; European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal; Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal.

After retiring from the Navy, he worked as an engineer for Martin Marietta at Kennedy Space Center, designing Titan 3C missiles. One of his projects focused on the special range safety system known as the Inadvertent Separation Destruction System. After retiring from Martin Marietta, he worked for many years as a Senior Consultant at KSC.

Charles was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who took joy and pride in his family and friends. Having lived a long and full life, he will be remembered for his generosity and lively sense of humor.

Visitation will be held November 25, 2017 beginning at 1 p.m., with a memorial service at 3 p.m. at Beach Funeral Home, 1689 South Patrick Dr., Indian Harbour Beach, FL.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of St. Frances of Brevard or the Alzheimer’s Association at alz.org.
