Obituary for Arleen Rice

Arleen June Rice was called to Heaven by our Lord and Savior on May 11. Born on June 14, 1935 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania to Clarkson and Kathryn McGuigan, she was raised in Dayton, Ohio along with her two brothers, Clarkson Jr. (deceased) and Curtis.

She met her life's love, James Rice, while in college, graduated with an education/teaching degree, and they were married shortly after. The couple eventually found their way to the Space Coast when Jim took a position with NASA. Arleen taught at DeLaura Jr. High School and Satellite High School until the birth of their only child, Nicole. The drive to commit her heart and soul to her family and her community led her to dedicate the next 50 years of her life to raising her daughter, and seeing her community flourish and grow by her tireless leadership and volunteer efforts. Arleen was extremely passionate and strongly believed in the organizations she led and volunteered with, which include: The Salvation Army, The Brevard Symphony Orchestra, The Satellite Beach Women's Club, The Republican Women's Group, Keep Brevard Beautiful, Meals on Wheels, and Trinity Wellsprings Church to name a few. Arleen's unwavering faith in God was evident to all who knew her and led her to give of herself tirelessly; she will be sorely missed by her family, friends and community. God has gained a beautiful soul and we have lost a true angel here on Earth.

Arleen Rice is survived by her daughter Nicole Russ and her son-in-law Barry, and grandchildren Paris and Devin; sister-in-law Winifred McGuigan and children; brother Curtis McGuigan and wife Lesley; their daughters Heather McGuigan Shamp (Craig) and children, and Katheryn McGuigan Rice (Tim) and children. Godspeed my dear mother.

A memorial service will be held at Trinity Wellsprings Church on Saturday, June 2 at 1 PM.
