Obituary for Edward Mastaglio


Edward Francis Mastaglio, 90, of Viera, FL died peacefully on Thursday, June 7, 2018 in Viera, FL. Ed was born August 1st, 1927 in Brooklyn, New York where he grew up. He was the son of the Late Edward James Mastaglio and Helen Murphy Mastaglio. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his stepson James Robinson Pierce, III; his sister Helen Adele Maycock, and her son – his nephew, Joseph Maycock, Jr.

Ed is survived by his wife of 64 years Margaret Ann (Rosser-Pierce) Mastaglio; His daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Joseph Babb of Melbourne, FL; his son and Daughter-in-Law David and Debbie Mastaglio of El Cajon CA; his two grandchildren Lydia and Luke Mastaglio of San Diego, CA; his brother in law Joseph Maycock, and his nephews and niece, Edward Maycock, Bill Maycock and Kathleen Maycock all of Maryland. He is also survived by his faithful canine companion Chico, who gave him much joy in his last years.

Ed was a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, Class of 1950. Upon graduation, he served in Korea where he was decorated with the Silver Star Award for gallantry in battle. Upon completion of military service, Ed spent many years in the aerospace industry.
Edward was highly thought of by all who knew him, and he will be dearly missed by those that love him. The following quote attributed to Ralph Waldo Emerson aptly describes how Ed lived his life:

“The purpose of Life is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have made a difference that you have lived and lived well.”

Service will be held at West Point Military Academy with full military honors.
