Obituary for Francis Richard Kelley III

Francis Richard Kelley III
Francis Richard Kelley III of Satellite Beach, FL, son of Francis and Winifred Kelley, died of natural causes on Tuesday, July 3, 2018.

Richard was born in Somerville, MA, on October 6, 1937. As the son of a retail entrepreneur and a kindergarten teacher, Richard grew up in Belmont, MA with his older sister Ruth and younger brother Ronald.

After graduating from Belmont High School at age 16, Richard earned his bachelor’s degree from Boston University. Shortly thereafter, Richard married Ada Silvagni, whom he had met in high school. Ada and Richard had two children, Stephen and Kristina. Richard joined the U.S. Air Force as an officer and served for 21 years, retiring as a lieutenant colonel. He and his family lived all over the United States during his Air Force career, finally settling in Florida.

After losing his first wife Ada to cancer, Richard married Deborah Kelley in 1989. Richard and Deborah had a daughter, Sarah. Also part of the family were Meredith and Scott, Deb’s children from a previous marriage. Richard and Deborah lived in Satellite Beach, FL for nearly 30 years.

For many years, Richard worked with Harris Corporation and Northrop Grumman as a contract administrator. After Richard retired from industry, he and Deb remained in Satellite Beach to enjoy the warm weather and spend time with grandchildren.

Richard loved his family very much, and was always there to support family members in need. He truly enjoyed traveling, golf, and Maine vacations. Throughout his retirement, he played poker regularly with his friends.

Richard is survived by his wife, Deborah, of Satellite Beach, FL; his brother, Ron, of Danvers, MA; his children Stephen (Scottsdale, AZ), Sarah (Boston, MA), Meredith (St. Augustine, FL), and Scott (Houston, TX); and his grandchildren Kelly, Stephanie, William, Anthony, Connor, Mia, and Mason.

There will be a Celebration of Life on July 22, 2018 from 6pm to 8pm at Beach Funeral Home in Indian Harbour Beach. There will also be a military salute and interment at the Cape Canaveral National Cemetery on Monday, July 23 at 12:30pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society: www.cancer.org
