Obituary for Stanley Allen Johnson

Stanley A. “Sandy” Johnson, born on Christmas Eve in 1938, passed peacefully at his home surrounded by loved ones on July 4, 2018. Sandy was born in Madison Wisconsin to Stan and Mary Johnson. The youngest of three children, he grew up in Madison where he developed a love for the water and for flying. He proudly flew for American Airlines for 34 years, was an active member of the Grey Eagles (American’s retirees), and a member of the Naples Chapter of Quiet Birdmen. He was a lifetime member of the Experimental Aircraft Association .

When Sandy wasn’t flying, he was on the water. He enjoyed boating on the Great Lakes and in Florida. He was a life time member of the Waukegan Yacht Club, and served as Commodore and director. After Sandy’s retirement from the Airlines, he pursued many hobbies. He became a licensed HAM radio operator, earned a Marine Surveyor’s license, and enjoyed driving his Model A Ford as an active member of the local Model A club, The Cherryland A’s.

Sandy enthusiastically reconnected with his heritage of the Fuller and Johnson Company and Gisholt Machine Company of Madison, WI. His great grandfather was John A Johnson of Madison. As a collector of Fuller & Johnson farm engines, he discovered a big family of like collectors at the Badger Gas and Steam Engine Club in Baraboo, WI. He became a member and helped to establish the Fuller and Johnson Museum on the Badger Gas and Steam Engine Club grounds. To ensure the future of the museum and his Fuller and Johnson legacy, he established a not-for-profit corporation, Fuller and Johnson Company, dedicated to the museum maintenance and preservation of artifacts for community education and enrichment.

Sandy never met a stranger and was diligent at keeping in touch with his friends.

Most of all, he loved his family and always had time for them. He was a loving and devoted husband, and father. He is survived by his wife, Sandra Johnson, his daughter Elizabeth Johnson Dickson (Steve), his sister Elizabeth Pfeifer, step daughter Susan Czagas (Bill). He is survived by many nieces, nephews, and grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his mother and father, his sister Gina, and his son Weston.

Sandy loved his country and the Green Bay Packers, never wavering in his loyalty for either.

A memorial service will be held at the Sturgeon Bay Yacht Club on August 25th at 3 PM.

In lieu of flowers, you may honor Sandy by donating to the Fuller and Johnson Company. Donations will be received by the Bank of Luxemburg, 519 Lansing St., Sturgeon Bay, WI 54235. Please include your name and address for a return acknowledgment.
