Obituary for Evelyn Schwinn

Evelyn Mae Schwinn, 90, of Indian Harbour Beach, died peacefully Wednesday evening, October 10, 2018. She was born July 10, 1928 in Benton Ridge, Ohio to the late John and Velma (Hammond) Smith and was a 1945 graduate of Liberty-Benton High School (Ohio).

Devoted wife to Richard (Dick) Henry Schwinn, they were married on August 17, 1951 in Findlay, Ohio. Dick preceded her in death February 13, 2000.

Evelyn was an amazing mother and grandmother. Evelyn is survived by daughter Susan (John) Nigh of Indialantic, Florida and son Steven (Linette) Schwinn of Goshen, Indiana. She had four grandchildren: Jason (Erika) Nigh of Indian Harbour Beach, FL; Steven “Aaron” (Christina) Schwinn of Burbank CA; Austin (Regan Shorter) Schwinn, and Abram Schwinn both of Oklahoma City, OK; and three great grandchildren: Evelyn (Evy) Nigh, Azaliea and Madeleine Schwinn, and step great grandchildren: Victoria and Anthony Sztark.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her four sisters: her twin sister Carolyn, twin sisters Lula Akerman and Lola Akerman, and Bernice Bracy.

Evelyn was an active member First Christian Church of Melbourne Florida since 1973. All who knew her enjoyed her colorful hats with matching dress which she would wear to church each Sunday.
Evelyn was an avid reader (two or more books per week), a very inventive and accomplished artist, a poet, and was for many years known in Indian Harbour Beach as “the bike lady” for riding her bike at least 20 miles per day in her later years. Evelyn was known for her warm smile and ability to find humor in almost all situations.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 on Saturday, October 27, 2018 at First Christian Church, Melbourne, Florida.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First Christian Church of Melbourne, 2010 South Babcock Street, Melbourne, FL 32901 or Hospice of Health First.
