Obituary for Donald Fuller Roberts

Donald Fuller Roberts, civil engineer, Alfa Romeo aficionado, dedicated husband, father and grandfather, died on August 27, 2016 at the age of 84. He lost his life to pancreatic and liver cancer at the Wuesthoff Hospice Center surrounded by family. Donald was born on March 28, 1932 in Omaha, Nebraska, the first of four children of Donald Pryor Roberts and Lelia Nora Fuller, and was a resident of Satellite Beach since 1984.

He received a B.S. in Civil Engineering from the University of Nebraska in 1954, then served in the US Army from 1954 to 1956 during the post-Korean war reconstruction efforts. He also received a technical diploma from Delft Technical University (Netherlands) in 1967. His expertise in water treatment and sewer design lead him to oversee projects internationally. One such project was in Nicaragua, where he met Marcia Icabalceta, his wife from 1971 until her death in 2012. He was a long time employee of Allen Engineering in Cocoa Beach, where he worked up until a few weeks before his death. He held memberships in numerous professional civil engineering organizations.

An avid car fan, he once owned and regrettably sold a Bugatti Type 57 but it was his love of Alfa Romeos which was his true passion. He was an active member, nationally and locally, of the Alfa Romeo Owners Club since 1974 and took numerous road trips with his family to attend car shows. Donald was known for exploring new foods, spirits, fruits and the occasional windy road.

Donald was preceded in death by his wife Marcia Icabalceta Roberts and is survived by his son Donald I. Roberts (Melody) of Atlanta, GA; son Dr. Miguel E. Roberts (Dr. Sushma) of Baltimore, MD; brother Daniel (Beach Park, IL) sisters Robbie (Birmingham, AL) and Carrie (Santa Fe, NM). He also leaves three grandchildren Gabriela and Vikram of Baltimore and Loren of Atlanta, plus many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on September 17th at 10am at Suntree United Methodist Church, Melbourne, FL.
