Obituary for Sandra Jane Helpling

Sandra Jane Helpling, dedicated wife, mother, and veterinarian, passed away January 21, 2019, at the age of 45.

Sandy was born in Ridgewood, NJ in 1973, to Kaye VanSickle and the late Carl Raders. Sandy was a 1992 graduate of Baton Rouge High School. She completed both her undergraduate and post graduate studies at Louisiana State University, receiving her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 1998. She practiced for the past 16 years at Viera East Veterinary Center, where she became an owner and impacted the lives of not only her four legged patients, but also their owners and the staff she so dearly loved.

In 2002 Sandy married Chad Helpling and in 2003 they welcomed the birth of their son Braden, followed shortly by the birth of their daughter, Carlise, in 2004. Sandy was a devoted wife and mother and was passionate about her family. Sandy enjoyed gardening, boating, and home projects, but more than anything she loved to spend time with her children, family, and friends. Vacations frequently involved fitting as many as possible into one house as she lived out the motto, “the more the merrier.”

Sandy is survived by her husband of 16 1/2 years, Chad Helpling; son, Braden Helpling; daughter, Carlise Helpling; sister, Deborah Schmidt; brother, Steven Raders; mother, Kaye VanSickle, and grandmother, Esther Myers. Sandy’s courageous strength, unending compassion, and inspirational love of life will be missed by all who knew her.
