Obituary

Born over 90 years ago, to Mary Anzy and Hollis Link, in what was then the small orange grove town of Sanford, Florida. A true 4th Generation Floridian, never lost the feelings for her home state and what she called her “Florida Cracker” history. Mary took great pride in this independent spirit and carried it throughout her life.

In Sanford, she met Van Jefferson a handsome young sailor, and later in 1945, married her lifelong partner with whom she would have two children, Dawn Elizabeth and William Dale.

Being a Military family, they moved many times to include places as Georgia, Puerto Rico, Iowa, Knoxville, Tennessee and Buffalo New York. Upon Van’s retirement, they would return to Florida and settle in Indian Harbour Beach, their home for the past 51 years.

Mary spent most of her career as a cosmetologist and retail manager in department stores and even owned the first convenience store here in Indian Harbour Beach for 10 years before retiring.

She was a beautiful seamstress, enjoyed being outside especially at the beach or in her pool. She exercised regularly and loved nature and animals and was a collector of owls.

As in life many tears were shed in the passing of her young Grandson William Matthew, her Husband Van, and her Daughter Dawn.

Mary is survived by her son William and his wife Juliana and their children Elizabeth Leigh and Emily Sara. She is also survived by Dawn’s daughter, Mary Leigh and her husband Charles Boyd. Also her loving sisters, Chi-Chi and her husband Bill Richardson and Shannon and her husband George Pappas, two great –grandchildren, Laura Gross Laszlo and Jeffrey Gross and many nieces and nephews. Last but not least she is survived by her 28 year old Parrot, Scud.

This corner of paradise brought many years of joy with the company of friends and family.
