Obituary

Krista Marianne Kirchner, 49, of Indian Harbour Beach passed away on April 2, 2019.

Krista was born in St. Louis to June and Dean Hewitt. She was raised in Alexandria, VA, where she was a competitive figure skater in her youth, and a cheerleader in high school. In 1993 she graduated with honors from Strayer College with a degree in business administration. Soon after graduation, she moved to the Space Coast, where she worked as an administrator at several companies including Harris, Northrop Grumman, Boeing, and at Patrick Air Force Base. Following the 2007 birth of her daughter, Kyra, she was a loving, caring stay-at-home mom.

In addition to her daughter, Krista is survived by her loving husband, Edward. She was completely devoted to her family, and almost all of her activities were centered around caring for them. She was an avid reader, and especially loved novels set in the Victorian Age. She also loved playing Scrabble - and was great at it. In their 23-year relationship, her husband counts his Scrabble victories on one hand. In order to seek out more equal competition, Krista began playing on-line, and made cherished long-distance friendships with Tina Lasky and Jon Mol.

Krista is also survived by her devoted best friend Sean Mathis (Kyra’s godfather), and other family members including her sisters Laurie Dzurko and Jennifer Hassett and their families, and her aunt Severine Zito. With her passing, she is reunited with her parents.

Memorial Contributions may be made to Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children.

Tina Lasky

My name is Tina, and I can still remember how we met online 10 years ago at the Scrabble table of a mutual friend named "Icyblue". I was Joiseyt. Most of us players would play on an "open 4 player table" which meant anyone could join the table. If there were any unfilled seats computer players would "fill in". Anyone could join and take any unfilled seat at any time. Icy and I were at a table playing when someone came in and took one of the computer seats. She knew Icy, but I didn't know her. I looked at the name "Shvinya1" and thought to myself her name in Polish/Slovak means "pig". I immediately greeted her with "Hi Piggy!" I never once called her "Krista", she was "Piggy" to me from that moment on! In time we became very close friends. She knew that I was not really referring to her as a "pig", so I was the only one at any table allowed to call her "Piggy", LOL. She was such a wonderful goodhearted person. She gave so much of herself, but she was not to be taken advantage of. On that end she was a tough (but good) cookie and didn't put up with any nonsense from anyone. Piggy wouldn't just "simply trust" anyone or take them on as a friend, but when she did she was a loyal and lifelong one. I'm still wondering to this day how and why I was so blessed to have been able to be counted as one of her true friends. She was my confidante and I was hers. We had so much in common too that it was scary lol. We would laugh every time we discovered that we had another thing in common. We even thought alike and would joke and say we shared the same brain! We both had husbands named "Ed" who were Ukrainian. Of course we both shared our love for Scrabble, but we also shared the same values and political views and had similar taste in clothing and music. We also shared the same faith and strong belief in God. It's amazing how you can find someone online so much like yourself, and become such good friends! I am SO thankful for the time that we had as friends. I'm also thankful that I was able to meet her and Ed and their daughter Kyra. I fell in love with Kyra instantly, and the bond we formed still remains and cannot be broken. I'm "Aunt Joisey" now and forever. I know Piggy's faith and beliefs were strong. We had many discussions on the subject so I know that she's with the Lord now and that gives me great comfort, but I will always miss. She will always have a special place in my heart. RIP my Dear Sweet Piggy, Love ya Always.... Joisey
