Obituary

Esmeralda (Melda) Donovan, age 85, passed away 16 May 2019 at her residence after a lengthy illness. Melda was born in Tigaon, Camarines Sur, Philippines on October 10, 1933, daughter of the late Juan Victor Ramos, Esq, and Clara Estela Ramos. She was a communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church.
In the Philippines she attended Santa Isabel, Bethel Girls School and Philippines Women’s University. She was also a Flight Attendant for Philippine Airlines and Secretary to a prominent Filipino Congressman. She moved to the U.S. with her since-deceased first husband and proudly became a U.S. citizen. For 15 years she raised her three children as a single parent, while working in secretarial positions within The Department of Defense in Virginia and Hawaii, before retiring from civil service in 1989.

She and her beloved husband of 31 years, Ken Donovan, Colonel, U.S. Army (Ret), relocated from Hawaii to Florida in 1993. Her artistic passion was on full display through her many original paintings some of which were on display at The Maxwell King Center for The Arts. Her love for gardening resulted in recognition by The Wickham Forest Homeowner’s Association with Yard of The Month honors.

She is survived by her husband, Ken, children, Clare E. A Matthews (Mark) of Lake Mary, FL; Mary G. A. Forrest (Don) of Mansfield, TX; James C. Ferguson (Lynn) of Niceville, VA; Step-Sons Roger and Stephen Donovan of Richmond, VA and her sister, Beatriz Recto of Mesa, AZ. She’s also survived by 2 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchild and several nieces and nephews in both the US and Philippines.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, 22 May at Beach Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 4999 N. Wickham Rd from 6-8 pm (321-751-6012).

Dear Uncle Ken, We are saddened to learn of Tita Melda’s passing. I remember how you and Tita Melda always contacted us on special occasions especially on Christmas, even sending us presents. In spite of the distance we felt the love you both sent our way. I wish I had the chance to get to know her more and I wish I could be there to at least give you a hug. I am currently visiting New York and considered coming over but due to schedule and limited time constraints I cannot be there for Tita Melda’s Memorial. I will keep you in my prayers. May the Lord’s presence, grace and love comfort you at this challenging time. Love, Lay

Tita Melda you will never be forgotten. I know for a fact that we will never forget you and how much you've impacted our life. Not only that, but everyone that knew you adored you so much and they will miss you to pieces. As we traveled down memory lane, we remembered all the good times , and we can't help but miss you. So grandaunt Melda, we promise to always keep your memory alive and all the things that you have taught us to become a better, loving, and humble person just like you are. Coming to America was one of the hardest thing I've ever done ,but you and Uncle Ken welcomed me with big open arms and never failed to remind me that I am part of the family. You never once doubted my abilities. So everyday you never failed to remind me that one day I'm going to make it, I'm on my way there, grandaunt Melda.Everyone knew who you were and they have said nothing but good things about you. So no matter what, We are lucky to have had such an amazing grandaunt like you.You are always and forever be love. From Claire,Mikhaela, Tito Nonoy and the whole Ramos Family.
