Obituary

My mother was born in Cleveland, Ohio in 1926 to Elizabeth and Herman Schaa. They resided in Fairview Park, Ohio.

My mother graduated from Fairview High and then proceeded to become an X-ray Technologist at Lutheran Hospital. She loved her career and she was well respected in her career. The hospital ended up cross training her for Nuclear Medicine. She was a very accomplished technologist and still get Christmas Cards from the Doctors. She was a very brilliant lady and she was definitely ahead of her time. She truly loved and cared for all her patients and never missed a day of work. She wore a beautiful white uniform that was indicative of the times. As well as her hospital job she helped her mother run a business,The Checker Bar. Those were very happy days. She loved helping my grandmother making bean soup which sold for 18 cents. So many happy memories came from the Checker Bar. The customers they came to know and they could really tell some stories. It still has fond memories in my life. I loved sitting by the cash register drinking orange soda and wondering how much money I could count. I loved playing pool and being chased Around by Charlie Price. We eventually had to sell the bar do to eminent domain. It was a sad day indeed.
What a great business it truly was.

As the years we moved to Bay Village, we had a pristine life and we had a lot of Fun. We went to Cedar Point in the summer, skiing in the winter, ice skating, sledding. My grandmother died in 1975 which was a tragic event for our family. It was the same year I graduated from high school.

My father died and my mother remarried, George. She was very happy to start a new beginning at our house in Bay Village. George was an excellent father and husband. We then later moved from Bay Village to Florida in 1987 to be close to my. brother, Jim and his family, Andrea and Jimmy.

My parents grew to love the Florida lifestyle and met a lot of people through the Lions Club. They traveled to many places, China, Hong Kong, Hawaii, and the Caribbean. My Dad became the District Governor which was a great accomplishment. My father passed in 2015 and my Mom 2018 from a stroke.

It was a happy life and I will deeply miss my parents and all the great things they provided us. A day will never go by where I won’t miss my Mom. She really loved all her grandchildren and always loved when they came over to visit. My mother was very proud when Kathy became a Nurse and then a Nurse Practitioner. She also was happy to see Kathy get married and have her first great grandchild, Julia.

I really owe it to my Mom for giving me the best life she could and she will be deeply missed.
