I first learned of Steve through a Florida Today article describing him as the guy who cycled all over Brevard County in between painting jobs. I later met him through his brother Tom and made the connection that this was the same Steve. I didn't ride with him much - mainly because he went too fast and too far for me - but whenever I did see him he was always laughing. I was so hopeful seeing him at the benefit ride, and I was impressed with his positive outlook. He told me about the wall in his home full of cards and well wishes from his friends and loved ones. He had a lot of people pulling for him. I am sad to see that Steve is gone, but I know that he is smiling and playing his guitar on the other side.

Although Steve and I usually saw each other when he visited New Jersey for the class reunions and get togethers, we had many great times. Steve loved life and always was alot of fun to be around. On one occasion when our friend Margaret and I visited Florida, Margaret had commented to Steve how she liked a man in a flight suit. Steve was to pick us up to look for manatees, was quite late, and low and behold he showed up wearing a flight suit he had borrowed. That was just the type of person he was--he always wanted to bring a smile to someone with his humor. I was deeply saddened when I heard of Steve's diagnosis but had the opportunity to support him as much as possible. Steve was so determined to overcome his disease. Steve and I would talk once or twice a week on the phone and he constantly spoke of how his family and friends were the driving force that kept him going throughout his illness. I truly believe that all of those who supported him made him enjoy the passing months and made some great memories for him. I am extremely happy that I was able to visit with Steve a few months back in Florida. I know that Steve truly enjoyed spending time with his "Jersey Girls" and we shared much laughter. I hope that the photo album of the memories and fun times that we prepared for him and kept updating for him during the past few months will be some happy memories for his family in the years to come. There will never be a class reunion and get together that will ever be the same for us without Steve. We lost a wonderful friend who we will never forget.

We were on a hash ride the first time I met Steve, and as always he was in great good humor. I still have the image of he and brother Tom laughing as they held open part of a fence to allow others to pass through. Another time Steve was an integral part of our portrayal of KISS at a hash party. He helped make it fun!

Steve was always out riding. Last time I ran across him was a strange set of circumstances. I was riding down Tropical Trail and my rear wheel started skipping. This continued getting worse the further I rode and finally I turned around and just made it back to Mather’s Bridge. When pedaling forward the wheel spun the same as pedaling backward. I could go no further. Then who should appear out of nowhere but Superman Steve. I held on to his seat and he proceeded to pull me to his house where he gave me a ride home. I still owe you a beer Steve!

Tom & Carol, since the early 90's I have watched Steve bike all over town and participate in the the triathlons we use to run. I was always amazed at how often he was biking, in the heat, or rain. I'm truly sorry for your loss, but I know he is in a better place. One day you will all be together again. I will pray for Steve, and for you and your family. god Bless you .

What a guy! Through the toughest days, Steven would not give up. I was blessed to have become close to him during the season he needed me the most. Steven is my hero and we will continue the battle to prevent and cure. I cherish the time we spent together, his laughter and all the great stories he shared. He is loved and missed.

Ah, the times we had in Country Lakes! You could always count on my man Steve for good times. Sneaking out at night to party at the Hunting Lodge, hanging at Trixie's, fun at the beach in the summer or ice skating in the winter, waiting for the school bus! Living just down the street, we saw a lot of each other. As years past, we lost touch, but we always danced together at the PTHS Reunions. I'll miss him....he's a great guy!
