Obituary of Sanford Kotzen

BUD KOTZEN, 90, died Monday, February 15, 2010. He is survived by Therese (Terry) Kotzen (married 67 years), his daughter, Suzanne Harber, son, Rev. Geoffrey Kotzen, and 3 grand-children. Bud was born and married in New York City. He served in the Navy in WWII as a Chief Pharmacists Mate. Upon leaving the service Bud sold surgical instruments and eventually went into hospital administration at Harford Memorial Hospital (Maryland). He then became CEO at Franklin Square Hospital in Baltimore, MD. Bud revitalized this downtown hospital and transplanted Franklin Square to Eastern Baltimore County in the Essex/Whitemarsh area. Alliances were set up with Essex Community College for healthcare educational tracks and Bud served on and chaired several state and national healthcare associations. Bud Kotzen was a man who lead through his integrity, strength of character, and ability to evoke loyalty in his employees. This held true with the numerous assistants he mentored and trained. His family would describe him as the silent leader who always could be counted upon for mature counsel. As an avid sailor Bud frequently sailed the Chesapeake Bay. He and Terry eventually retired to Melbourne, Florida. A memorial service is planned for Sunday, March 21st at the Pineda Presbyterian Church (321-259-1330) at 3:00pm. The next day there will be a military committal service at the South Florida National Cemetery in Lake Worth, FL.
