Obituary of James George Demopoulos

James George Demopoulos 74, passed away Sunday May 9, 2010 at his home in Melbourne, Florida. James was born in Asheville, North Carolina September 6, 1935 to George and Anthoula Demopoulos. James grew up in Miami, Florida where he graduated from Miami Senior High School, and later graduated from Emory University in Atlanta with a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree. He practiced his early years as a naval dentist in Key West, serving as a Lieutenant. He practiced in his own dental office in Miami for 29 years, and later moved to Melbourne where he practiced another 20 years with Dentaland. He was a devout Greek Orthodox and served on the boards of St. Katherine's (Melbourne) and St. Sophia Cathedral (Miami), and a member of St. Andrew's (Miami). James was 48 year member of A.H.E.P.A. where he was elected for many offices, including Chapter President, District Governor, and Past Supreme Governor, and received Outstanding Member Award twice among many other awards, and served as Ahepa S.E. Regional Athletic Director, golf tournaments, and scholarship committees. He was a 32 degree Mason and also a Azan Shriner. James was married to his college sweetheart and the love of his life Sylvia Kartsonis for almost 52 years, and raised three children. Survivors include his wife Sylvia of Melbourne, sister Frosene Steevens of Miami, daughters Anne Figari (Jerry) of Jensen Beach, and Elaine Petersen (Jerry) of Windermere, and son George Demopoulos (Marta) of Melbourne, and grandchildren Jay, James, Jas, John, Ashley, and Joseph who were the apples of his eye, and many beloved cousins, nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., May 12th at Beach Funeral Home, Melbourne. Funeral services will be celebrated on May 13, 2010 at St. Katherine's Greek Orthodox Church, Melbourne, Florida at 12 p.m. Contact Beach Funeral Home for burial information at 321-751-6012.
