Obituary of Vernon D. Stanford

Vernon D. Stanford, died Wednesday, August 11, 2010 at the age of 89 years. He was born in East Orange, New Jersey, graduating from East Orange High School and the University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics, class of 1942. He enlisted in the Navy's V5 program in January 1942 and was commissioned Ensign and designated Naval Aviator in May 1943. He saw action in WWII in the Pacific, receiving the Distinguished Flying Cross and four Air Medals. He retired in November 1962 at the rank of Commander. He is survived by his wife, Jacqueline, of 53 years; he is also survived by two sons, Murray (wife, Jackie) and Mark (wife, Jennifer) and his grandson, Scott. It was his preference not to have a memorial service. Instead, he asked that those wishing to honor his memory do so with random acts of kindness to other people, pets and wildlife.
