Obituary of Lucia Crosby

Lucia Angelina Crosby, 76, loving grandmother, mother, and wife, died peacefully Friday, September3, 2010. Born and raised as one of eleven children to Sicilian Immigrant parents in Boston, MA, She was known to her Southie Friends as LuLu Giamaputo. An Artist at heart, she was accepted at the Boston School for Artists, however was unable to attend when at age 17, her family relocated to Tampa, FL for several years. Upon the families return to Boston, Lucia met and married Richard "Rick" B. Crosby, her husband for 52 years until his death in 2009. Together Lucia and Rick traveled extensively as an Air Force family raising three children along the way. Their last duty station was Jacksonville, FL where they lived since 1976. Most of her friends in Jacksonville knew her as Lucy where she and Rick were active in the Gold Wing Riders Association. After her husband's death, Lucia spent most of her time in Melbourne, FL. To be near her grandchildren. Lucia will always be remembered as a fun, loving, caring, person who willingly helped others. She was homeroom mother, Cub Scout den leader, caregiver for her mother, and would offer assistance whenever the need arose. She is survived by her son, Richard Paul Crosby of Hollywood, FL, son, John J. Crosby and his wife, Jamie of Melbourne, FL; daughter, Lucy A. Newbery, of Melbourne, FL; three grandchildren, Lucia Newbery, Georgia Newbery, and Jonathan Crosby all of Melbourne, FL; two sisters, Rose Nelson of Pace, FL, and Maria-Elena Boulot of South Boston, MA; three brothers, Joseph Giarraputo, Salvatore Giarraputo both of South Boston, MA and Roger Giarraputo of Attleboro, MA; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. A viewing and funeral service will be held at the Ascension Catholic Church, 2950 N. Harbor City Blvd.(US-1) in Melbourne, FL on Wednesday, September 8, 2010. Visiting hours are from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the chapel followed by a funeral mass. Lucia was a breast cancer survivor dating from her bout in 1993. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Breast Cancer Society of America.
