Obituary of Charles Leslie Foy

Charles “Les” Foy, 83, of Indialantic, Florida, was called by the Lord on August 10, 2020 at his home with his loving wife and three children at his side. Les was born on August 7, 1937 in Jacksonville, Florida to the late Robert M. and Catherine (Oldham) Foy.

He is survived by his wife of fifty-six years, Loretta Anne Matus Foy; three children: David (Carol) Foy, Kathleen (Glynn) Smith, Michael (Beth) Foy; six grandchildren: Kelly Anne Foy, Christina Foy, Allison Foy, Sarah Foy, Hannah Foy, Nicholas Smith; and one great-grandchild: Abby Foy. He also leaves to cherish his memory three sisters and four brothers.

Les was raised in Jacksonville Beach, Florida and attended St Paul’s Catholic Grade School and Bishop Kenny High School. After high school, he served in the U.S. Army from 1956 – 1959. He graduated with a BS in Math/Physics from Jacksonville University in 1963 and earned an MS in Systems Management from Florida Institute of Technology in 1971.

He worked at Goddard Space Flight Center (Maryland) and Chrysler Corporation Space Division (New Orleans) but spent most of his career as a Reliability Assurance Engineer and Manager at Harris Corporation (formerly Radiation, Inc) beginning in 1967 until his retirement in 1994.

Throughout his life, Les was dedicated to his Catholic faith. In 1994, he was ordained into the Permanent Diaconate and became the first Permanent Deacon at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church. He was also a leader in the Charismatic Renewal movement for over forty years conducting weekly prayer group meetings and many healing services during this time. He served faithfully in various ministries such as Knights of Columbus, Parish Council, RENEW facilitator, CCD/Confirmation instructor, and lector. Les was also instrumental in founding the Pro-Life movement in South Brevard County many years ago.

Les was a long-time resident of Indialantic which he loved and enjoyed for fifty-three years.

His commitment to his faith, family, and community were paramount in his life. He was known by those that knew and loved him as incredibly dedicated, generous, spiritual, and kind.  He was the patriarch of his family and was a very loving husband, dad, grandad, and great-grandad. His presence on earth will be so greatly missed but his legacy of love will continue through his wife, children, and grandchildren.
