Obituary of Alan M. Rosiene
Alan M. Rosiene, 60, passed away peacefully Saturday, Jan 16, 2021, from COVID-19. Born April 24, 1960 to Harriet and the late Alan I. Rosiene, he grew up in Preston, CT, attending Norwich Free Academy and graduating from Wesleyan University. Receiving his PhD at Northwestern University, he came to Melbourne to work at Florida Tech, spending the next 28 years dedicated to his life’s work, where he earned multiple academic awards, directed the English as a Second Language program, spoke at many international literary conferences, was named Associate Professor of English and Languages, and served as Associate Head of Florida Tech’s School of Arts and Communication.
An accomplished pianist and music aficionado, Alan collected a robust vinyl album collection and played with the Florida Tech faculty band “Twitchy.” Peers and colleagues remember him as a passionate scholar, devoted to studying, writing and wholly dedicated to his students. Close friends and family will also remember him as a patient, good-natured, generous, loving husband and father. An adventurous spirit, he enjoyed many happy trips around the world with his wife and daughter. He was known for his sense of humor, usually delivered with a grin and mischievous spark in his blue eyes.
Alan is survived by his wife, Sandra Bruner and his daughter Kate Rosiene of Melbourne, FL; mother, Harriet Rosiene of Preston, CT; sisters Tracy Rosiene of Preston and Meg (Terry) Skowronek of Chester, CT; nephew Matthew of Chester; brother Joel (Carolyn) Rosiene of Colchester, CT; nephew Joel of NYC, and niece Katie of Syracuse, NY. He will be greatly missed by aunts, uncles, and extended family who loved him dearly.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, no services are being held at this time. In remembrance of Alan’s life, the family asks that anyone wishing to express sympathy consider a charitable donation to the Dr. Rosiene Liberal Arts Scholarship at Florida Tech.
