Obituary of Duwayne Carlos Lundgren

Duwayne Carlos Lundgren, 75, of Satellite Beach died on Friday, October 7. He was born in Dallas, TX to Carrie and Hjalmer Lundgren. He graduated from Texas A&M University in 1957 and was commissioned into the US Army. While stationed in Germany, he met Susanne Macdonald and they married in 1960. Duwayne served most of his 31 year career in the Army as a Military Intelligence officer. His career took him and his family many places, including Germany, Italy, Korea, and several posts in the United States. He loved to engage the cultures and foods of the countries in which he served and made many dear friends. Duwayne earned many distinctions including Legion of Merit (two Oak Leaf Clusters), National Defense Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and the Distinguished Service Medal. One of his most rewarding professional accomplishments was receiving the Republic of Korea's National Security Merit Medal, Korea's highest honor to a non-Korean citizen. He was inducted to the Military Intelligence Hall of Fame in 2001. After his retirement from the Army, Duwayne dedicated himself to Brevard County where he was a senior member of the Brevard Supervisor of Election's office and was the Assistant to Commissioner Sue Carlson from 1998-2006. He was committed to making Brevard County a better place to live and positively affected the lives of many people. Duwayne was the Chairman of the Republican Club of Brevard and a Board Member of the YMCA. His true dedication was to the Lord and his devotion was felt by everyone that he touched. He spread the Word of the Lord through his day-to-day actions and encouraged many to accept the Lord as their Savior. Her served as an Elder at Pineda Presbyterian Church and taught adult Sunday school for the past fifteen years . He loved his church and the many friends he had there. He loved to tell stories and share his life experiences. He is survived by Susanne, his wife of 51 years; three sons, Scott of Cincinnati, OH, Eric and his wife Penny of Winston-Salem, NC, Jay of Hampton, VA; his sister Joyce Walters, of Dallas, TX; his sister-in-law Karen Eldridge of West Palm Beach; four grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at Pineda Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, October 12 at 2:00PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in his name to the church's memorial fund.
