Obituary of Daniel T Beckett
Daniel Beckett, 93, of Indian Harbour Beach, passed away on Tuesday, 12- 20-2011, to be with his beloved mother; Agnes, father; William and brother, Thomas. He was born in N.Y on 11-6-1918.
Dan graduated from Hempstead High School in 1938 where he excelled scholastically, and from Hofstra College in 1942. Days after graduation, Daniel reported to USCG Academy, New London, Connecticut for Officer's Candidate School. He served his country honorably in the U.S.C.G during WWII. After retiring from the U.S.C.G, Daniel taught for 20 years as a biology and then chemistry teacher at Hempstead High School on Long Island. Dan also taught in the DOD schools in Bahrain and then Germany for 6 additional years before "retiring" to IHB, Florida . He impacted the lives of countless numbers of students over his teaching career, many of whom still communicated with him. Daniel volunteered locally through the Red Cross at P.A.F.B and tought literacy to adults.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Madeline, daughters; Valerie Springer and Vivian Scott, grandchildren; Richard Drake, Stephen Drake, Jennifer Springer-Grillo, Tracey Springer-McManus, Heather Anderson, Elizabeth Springer-Colleran and Daniel Andrassy together with 8 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his close friend Charles Cormier of IHB and Cape Cod.
