Melissa Baum

Obituary of Melissa Powers Baum

Melissa Powers Baum, age 58, died suddenly and peacefully on January 17, 2012. She leaves behind J. Clayton Baum, husband of 34 years, two children, Matt and his wife Brittany, and Katie and her life partner, Mike Blum. She is also survived by her mother, Dot Powers, brother, Steve Powers, and sister-in-law, Caroline Webber, and many friends, who have been more like extended family. Shadow, a rescued Border Collie mix, was her constant and faithful companion, accompanying her to work. Being a wife and mother were Melissa's first priority. She considers the happy lives of her children and their choices of spouses her greatest source of contentment. However, she also enjoyed her career as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, which was very fulfilling. Her private practice was located in the same building with private practices of best friends of 30+ years who were also psychologists or psychotherapists. Going to work and seeing your best friends daily was a joy. She asked to convey her gratefulness to her many clients who provided life lessons as much as they received. According to Melissa's wishes, instead of a service, there will be a party celebrating her life. In lieu of flowers, please donate to charities that help keep homeless families together and off the streets, such as the Coalition for the Hungry and Homeless, 4087 US Highway 1, Suite 3, Rockledge, FL 32955.
