Obituary of David Wilson Montgomery

David W. Montgomery Sr. of Satellite Beach Florida joined his wife Eileen in heaven on the morning of February 12, 2012 after a courageous and long term battle with cancer. He was born in Brooklyn, NY on July 14th, 1928. He is a graduate of Brooklyn College with a bachelor's degree in business administration. David was the founder and former President of D.W. Montgomery & Co., a third generation commodity trading company now managed by three of his sons and grandson. He was the former President of the National Sugar Brokers Association, a position he held for over ten years. He was well respected in business, the community and in his church where he practiced generosity, compassion, and the art of forgiveness. He is survived by his loving and caring daughter and son-in law Cathy and Bob Ruple, His devoted sons; David, Paul, Andrew and Mark Montgomery, his daughter in laws; Marilyn, Susan and Jo Montgomery, fourteen grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. He also leaves a loving companion and friend, Ann McPadden of Indian Harbor Beach. People who knew David were blessed by his interest in others, wisdom, kindness, and a great sense of humor. He loved the theater, classical music, his dogs, and the company of others. David was an avid reader of American and World History, excelling in the knowledge of the life and times of Abraham Lincoln. How appropriate that his passing on February 12, coincides with the birthday of this great and moral president. He recently shared the proudest accomplishment in his life. It is the love and closeness of our family, an unconditional love he and our mother instilled in us as children which continues in our lives today. David was a devout Catholic and an active parishioner of the Ascension Church in Melbourne, FL., and led by his faith to feed the poor and impoverished at the Daily Bread in Melbourne. He lived his life simply and to its fullest potential, and will be remembered fondly by all who knew him. A celebration of his life will be held at the Ascension Church, 2950 N. Harbor City Boulevard, Melbourne, FL, on Thursday, February 16, 2012 at 11 AM. The Montgomery Family welcomes all friends and family to visit with them prior to the mass in the Chapel from 10AM-11AM. The family is requesting in lieu of flowers that donations be made in his memory to the Daily Bread or Hospice of St. Francis, Melbourne, Florida. We thank you for your prayers and support.
