Obituary of William J Higginson

William (Bill) Higginson III passed away on 8 May 2012, at the age of 85. Bill was born in New York. He came to Brevard County in 1995 and has lived in Satellite Beach for the last 17 years. In recent years, he has been a member of the City Council of Satellite Beach. He also was a volunteer on the Police Citizen's Patrol and the Marine Patrol. He was a member of Lions Club. He worked for Pan Am for 20 years, and spent his years designing kitchens before retiring and moving to Florida. He was a veteran of WWII who served with the 15th Marines on Okinawa and later in China. Bill was a conscientious citizen and an active voice for the Satellite Beach community. His concern for the continuation of needed public services drove him to fight for them even when he was in a hospital bed after a recent surgery. He was a shrewd businessman and had a sharp mind. Throughout his life, he had a knack for arguing his position and finding ways to be ultimately successful in his endeavors. He was a loyal friend and a worthy adversary. He was also a compassionate and loving person to his family. His volunteer work for the Police and Marine Patrols were examples of his citizenship and concern for his community. He was an icon of a great generation that is mostly gone, but will not be forgotten. He is survived by his wife, Suzanne. They had been married for 20 years. He is also survived by his nephews, John Baldwin of Merritt Island, Florida and Greg Baldwin of Nicasio, California; as well as his niece, Cynthia Fowler in California. The Memorial Service will be held at Beach Funeral Home, 1689 South Patrick Drive, Indian Harbor Beach, at 4 PM, on Monday, May 14. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Satellite Beach Police Department, 510 Cinnamon Dr., Satellite Beach, FL 32937. Condolences may be sent to www.beachfuneral home.com.
