Obituary of Siegfried Oskar Oberlaender

Siegfried "Sigi" Oberlaender, 70, of Indialantic, died peacefully in his home on June 9th, after a long battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Rosi Oberlaender, and their daughters Michaela and her husband Kevin Grass and son Nicholas, and Janine Vlasis and her children Stephanie and James. Sigi's twin brother, Heinz, and his sister Vera and their families are mourning him in his native Germany, along with friends in Colombia, Europe, and around the States. Sigi traveled the world as a chemical and mechanical process engineer for Akzo Corporation. He was a founding member of the Dixieland jazz band, Main Gags Summer Drops, where he played trombone and trumpet among other musical instruments. A lifelong artist, Sigi had painting exhibitions throughout the Southeast and abroad. He worked with local children on a mosaic at Juan Ponce de León Landing in Melbourne Beach. He was a member of the Rotary Club of Indialantic, the American Portrait Society, the Florida Watercolor Society, the Brevard Cultural Alliance, and Ascension Lutheran Church. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on June 14, 2012, at Ascension Lutheran Church, 1053 Pinetree Drive, Indian Harbour Beach, FL. In lieu of flowers, Sigi would be most honored for memorial contributions made in his name to Ascension Lutheran Church or to Wuesthoff Hospice in Brevard County.
