Obituary of Aubrey Joseph Derry

Aubrey J. Derry of Indialantic, Florida lost his long battle with cancer on Aug. 7, 2012. He was born Jan. 31, 1925 in Northport, Long Island, NY where he grew up on the Cheesborough Estate where his parents worked. A veteran of WWII he served his country with the US Naval Armed Guard as a gunner on Liberty ships from 1942-1946. He was a carpenter at Mitchell Air Force Base, a building inspector for the town of Smithtown, NY and in FL and a school crossing guard. He and his first wife Julia raised their two children in Smithtown, NY until they moved to Indialantic, FL. He loved working with wood, building furniture, remodeling his own and his children's houses, making something that he could have easily bought at Walmart. He enjoyed getting out on the water. He was the greatest collector of junk, but if you needed something fixed he would have a plan for you drawn out on the nearest napkin. He was a wonderful husband, dad, father-in-law, grandfather, friend. He was predeceased by his first wife, Julia and two brothers, Clifford and Thomas Derry. He is survived by Christine, his wife of 16 years, his son Aubrey "Skip" (Marilyn), daughter Vicki (Greg), grandaughters, Carly, Cassie, Danielle, sister, Minnie Jatsko, numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
