Obituary of Neil J Normando
Neil J Normando, 89 years old, passed away on Saturday December 22, 2012 at Holmes Regional Hospital.
Born in 1923 in Jersey City, NJ, he served on the carrier The Princeton in World War Two in the South Pacific before attending Princeton University, Rennselaer Polytechnic Institute, and graduating with a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering degree in 1952 from Newark College of Engineering.
During his working career he lived in Dumont, New Jersey, Livingston, New Jersey, Lisle, IL, and retired to Florida in 2003. His hobbies included; reading, metal detecting, playing the guitar, and traveling with his wife to all states in the U.S. where his children had settled. While living in Lisle, he was very active within the Lisle Heritage Society and metal detecting clubs. When he was asked - what is the greatest thing he had ever found, his reply was always "sunshine and fresh air". He was very active in Florida in the Parkside Place Association where he lived and was a volunteer at Holmes Regional Hospital. He was respected and loved by all who knew him, and will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Margaret (Peg). They were married in 1952, and they recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in September of 2012. He was the proud father of four children; Paul, Maryanne (recently deceased), Christine, and Neil, and was the proud grandfather of 9 grandchildren - 7 boys and 2 girls.
There will be a viewing on Thursday December 27, 2012 at Beach Funeral Home East, 1689 S Patrick Drive, Indian Harbour Beach from 6pm to 8pm, with a wake service to begin at 7pm. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 am on Friday, December 28th, 2012 at Holy Name of Jesus Parish.
