Obituary of Lucille Arlene Barton

Lucille Mendenhall Barton, 89, of Satellite Beach, Florida, died on February 18, 2013. She was an only child of Ralph Emerson Mendenhall and Marion McEwen Mendenhall. Lucille was born at her Grandmother McEwen's farm, in Centerville, Ohio, a suburb of Dayton, Ohio. While living in Dayton, she met and married (LTC) Hugh Hester Barton, who is now deceased. Their wonderful marriage lasted 66 years, and produced three children. Being an Air Force family, they were transferred to different U.S. locations ten times. Following Hugh's retirement in 1970, the Bartons settled in Satellite Beach, where they resided until 2006, when they moved to Sterling House in West Melbourne, FL. Lucille is survived by her three children: son, Hugh (Peggy) Barton of Melbourne, FL; daughter, Molly (Mike) Petkus of Dayton, OH; and daughter, Cecelia (Chris) Layton of Branson, MO; six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Lucille will be remembered for her love and devotion to her family, her artistic talents, her love of nature, cooking, gardening, and her Catholic faith. Mass of Christian Burial will he held at 10am on Sat. Feb. 23, 2013 at Our Lady of Lourdes, Melbourne, FL. Internment will be held at Orange Hill Cemetery, in Williston, FL.
