I knew Gen. Dunwoody when he was site manager/base commander for McDonnell Douglas Services at Dhahran. He was always very gracious to work with and treated people well. I believe he really brought out a lot of loyalty from MDS employees because he treated people with respect and was always direct, no politics. I was subcontract manager and he called me several times with unusual requests, like urgent painting over graffiti done by MDS dependent children, and I chuckled that a General Officer had to bother with such items but he took charge to push the right buttons. Dick and his wife were very well liked by employees and he brought a lot of good will to the position. Clearly, Gen. Dunwoody was a commander and a real asset to McDonnell Douglas.

To Barbara, Dick's children and grand children, Please accept our condolences for the passing of your husband and father. Dick was like a father to us also in many ways. We knew him in Dhahran where he was the head of McDonnell Douglas. He was responsible for taking care of our living and work needs in the F-15 community there. No problem was too big or too small for Dick in an otherwise difficult environment. Dick was simply fun to be around and his parties at his Villa were special occasions. In later years John worked for him as a cosultant with Dyncorp International at Fort Worth where he made otherwise dull work very interesting . I think there is universal agreement that Dick was a special human being, a person who we will never forget and a person that we are proud to say that he was our friend. We love Dick and will miss him so much. John and Eliza Messersmith Jan. 6, 2010 Edisto Island, SC 29438

I would like to offer my deepest sympathies to you. Although we haven’t met, all of us have experienced the loss of a loved one. I recently lost my mother and know the pain of a broken heart. Our Heavenly Father feels our pain. Psalms 34:18 assures us that He is near to those broken at heart. He does, however, hold out a promise that in the very near future He will wipe out all tears of sorrow and pain from our eyes and death will be no more. (Revelation 21:3-5) He also promises to remember all those in the memorial tombs (graves) and restore them to life. (John 5:28,29) Until those words are fulfilled, may you find much peace and comfort in God and in His promises found in the Holy Scriptures.

Dick and I worked at DynCorp. Although we never worked directly together I knew who he was and the work he performed. He was a great professional and will be missed by all on this earth.

Dick was a great man and a wonderful person to work with. He will be sorely missed by his friends, family and extended families. I enjoyed working with Dick for many years at DynCorp and I wish Barbara and his family the very best during these difficult times. Dick was one of the good guys.

Dick was a wonderful man with a HUGE, gentle heart!!! If there was ever an angel on earth it was Dick. I envy heaven right now as I know he is there watching over all of us. May God wrap his comforting arms around the many loved ones he left behind. He will always be remembered. Paula Woods Dyncorp International
