Obituary of William Lucas Mazyck

Lucas died at 11:58 a.m. on March 19, 2020 surrounded by family and friends. William Lucas Mazyck, Jr., known as Lucas was born on the Presidio in San Francisco, California on August 19, 1964 to Colonel (Ret.) William Lucas Mazyck, Sr. and Geraldine North Mazyck. As a child of a military officer, he moved almost every three years, spending time in Augsburg, Germany; San Francisco, California; Ft. Richie, Maryland; Indian Harbour Beach, Florida; Baton Rouge, Louisiana; Ft. Lee, Virginia; Munich, Germany; before returning to Indian Harbour Beach, Florida in 1983. Through his middle and high school years, he participated in sports, concert band, jazz band and Boy Scouts, achieving the rank of Life Scout before moving to Germany. When he moved to Munich, Germany, he joined the high school football team. He graduated from Munich American High School in 1982. He received his Associate's degree from Brevard Community College. He worked in Brevard County for many years with Jim Foster in landscaping and then with Greg Spillers as a house painter. He developed a respiratory illness in the late nineties and subsequently was classified as disabled. From that point, he was unable to work and spent much of his time at home. More than anything, Lucas was the sounding board for many family members, friends and even friends of the family. He had the most amazing ability to really listen, offer sound advice and make sure that people knew that they were heard. He enjoyed music immensely and like his wide community of friends, his taste in music covered all genres. He was generally shy and reserved until he really was familiar with people. Once he developed a relationship with someone, he loved to share a good laugh and had a laugh that sounded like pure joy. He often enjoyed game night and gaming with his friends, even his friends who lived out of state. He was also referred to as a "baby whisperer" and was able to calm most babies in a matter of minutes. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends and especially by those whom he regularly called just to say hello and share a laugh. He is survived by his parents Colonel (Ret.) William L. Mazyck and Geraldine North Mazyck, his four siblings, Karen Thomas, Gregory Mazyck, Brigitte Earl and Kimberly Mazyck, his nieces and nephews: Patrice Serena DeCuir (Miles); Alexander Mazyck Thomas (Michelle); Katherine Rose Owens; Marcus Gregory Mazyck; Aaron Patrick Lucas Mazyck; Lillian Owens and Alexander Mazyck Thomas, Jr. He also is survived by his dear aunts Mary Smalls, Carolyn Rouse, Francina Rouse, Amanda Mazyck and Ann Mazyck and a list of endless cousins and friends whom he cherished.
