Obituary of Marianne Moore Palumbo

Marianne was born in New Jersey, August 13, 1951 to Colonel Robert K. Moore, a career Army Officer, and Ryanna Moore. Both preceded her in death. She passed away December 15, 2010. She had the opportunity to live in the Philippines, Japan and Germany and experienced many cultures and traditions. Her mother, Marianne Ryanna, was a prisoner of the Japanese of the Japanese during WWII in the Philippines. Thus, Marianne knew of the atrocities of war first hand and developed an abiding and devoted love for her Country. Marianne graduated from Elon College with majors in Political Science and Social Science. One of her fondest memories was of her father flying her in a helicopter over her school and this began her love of flying. In April 1974 Marianne joined Piedmont Airlines as a Flight Attendant and traveled the world until she retired from US Airways in 2008. During her 35 years as a flight attendant she held many prominent offices with the Association of Flight Attendants, CWA and represented the AFA as a Political Action Lobbyist in Washington, DC. During her years there, she was instrumental in securing the smoking ban on all aircraft and the Boeing Amendment which made airlines responsible for liability in crashes involving aircraft over 20 years of age. Additionally, she was responsible for creating Flight Attendant Safety Professional Day which is July 19. Her greatest honor was becoming the recipient of the Eddie Lauderbach Award in 1998, AFA's highest honor. Her love of politics led Marianne to be a Democratic delegate from Brevard County in several national elections. As a member of the Indialantic Rotary Club, she became a Paul Harris Fellow and was a huge asset to her Club. Marianne loved to write and published many articles in Florida Today. On February 14, 2009 Marianne and Tom Palumbo were married on her late father's birthday. Marianne will be remembered as a warm, loving, caring and giving person by her professional associates, her friends and loved ones and especially by her husband, Tom. A visitation will be held from 1:30pm to 2:30pm with a service to begin at 2:30pm at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Satellite Beach on Wednesday, December 22, 2010.
