I can not begin to say enough good things about my Brother-in-law. He was one of the most sincere and caring persons I have had the honor to know. Gene, along with his most caring wife raised 7 great and honorable children. I am sure the Lord has a special place in Heaven for Gene. If someone was in need Gene was there. He did many things for many people, always for the good of the person or what ever. He will be missed for himself and for what he stood for. Happy flying Gene. Love you.....Marilyn

Dear Rocque Family, Our prayers are with you all at this sorrowful time. We have been blessed & honored to have known Gene since 1982. His Christian spirit & wonderful attitude toward everyone he met were unwavering. We shall always remember him with a warm smile & nothing but kindness in his eyes. He was a real trouper, never complaining about his illnesses, but revelling in the thought that he was a survivor. He will be sorely missed by us & others.

I had the good fortune to meet Pepere after marrying his second granddaughter Christine. He struck me immediately as a fair and steadfast man with a quiet strength, deserving of respect by way of broad experience, trial, and demonstrated heroism. I was honored that we shared a military background, and Pepere told me stories of his flying days, how he saved the lives of the crew and passengers during a mission where the aircraft door came off in flight...how he was more surprised and annoyed with the situation rather than apprehensive or heroic...In that singular and truly awesome event, he demonstrated that quiet strength...addressing the problem, and bringing it to a safe and positive end...doing the right thing at the right time, and doing something truly heroic. We shared other stories of military tribulations, dealing with challenging leadership, the politics of policy, and the durability of camaraderie that the military presents. He was always very engaging, thoughtful, and encouraging--offering counsel, humor, and persistence as a way to cope with the tough times. Few men can claim his achievements...It is incredibly rare to have known a man that spent 63 years with the same person, traveled the world, raised an extraordinary and vibrant family dedicated to lifestyles of service in the community. It is regrettable that we could not be there today to personally testify to these facts, but those present before Pepere slipped the surly bonds of earth, to dance the skies on laughter-silvered wings, and those now present, can most certainly attest that we have lost a very great, loving, and good man. I was very proud to know him and it is my hope that we all integrate his qualities, contributions, and character into our own, and that we make his life meaningful and memorable by living our lives to the best of our abilities.

My heart goes out to all of those who knew my grandfather (Pepere). He was a very giving person. He made a difference in everyone's lives big or small. He will be missed greatly and I know he is looking down on us all wanting us to celebrate his wonderful life and not to be sad. We will say good bye to him this weekend but he will be with us in our hearts in heaven. I feel blessed to know that he will be there to greet us when our time has come to meet Jesus in heaven. We miss you so much. Love-Catherine, Mark, Zoë and Mia.

Because you loved, there will be tears. Because you laughed, there will be memories. Because he lived, there is still joy. I pray you feel the peace of the Lord's love through this time.
