Obituary of Mildred J Drury

Mildred J. Drury passed from this life on March 7, 2011 a few weeks before her 89th birthday. Mildred had been a resident of Brevard County for over 50 years, and enjoyed remarking that there were fewer than 15,000 people living in the county when she and husband Frank located here in the late 1950's. Mildred - "Midge" or "Mimi" to her family and friends - lived a full and adventurous life…from being the business manger for her mother's several nursing homes in Miami when she was in her 20's, to venturing by herself to Anchorage, Alaska to work for the Army Corps of Engineers when she was in her early 30's, to starting and building the Drury Real Estate Agency in Satellite Beach from her 40's through her mid 60's. Though she was an accomplished and successful businesswoman in her own right, what she enjoyed most was being the wife of her husband, Frank. She was immediately attracted to the tall, dashing Marine ace fighter pilot when mutual friends set them up to meet at a party in 1954. They were married in 1955 and were together for over 45 years, until being separated by Frank's passing in 2002. Mildred was always proud to be on Frank's arm as they attended his many Lions Club conventions and Marine Corps reunions through the years. Mildred is survived by her children Pamela Henson and Mark Drury whose sorrow at losing their strong, determined and soft-hearted mother is eased by the joy of knowing she is now permanently reunited with her beloved Frank and the many other family members who were waiting to celebrate her arrival. She will be laid to rest Friday, March 11, next to her husband at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL following a private family service.
