Obituary of Walter Johnson Woods

Walter Johnson Woods, 86, passed away at home in Melbourne on March 21, 2011 after a short battle with leukemia. Walter was born on September 28, 1924 in Verda, Louisiana to Frank and Ida Woods. After graduating high school Walter joined the Navy where he served for many years during both WWII and the Korean War. His last few years in the Navy were spent working as a mechanic with the Blue Angels. Walter worked for South Central Bell in New Orleans, Louisiana for over thirty years. He met the love of his life, his wife of almost 63 years Evelyn Vernon Woods, while they were both working for the telephone company. He was a past master of the Masonic Lodge in Louisiana; and a member of Melbourne American Legion Post #163. They lived in Louisiana until 1994 when they relocated to Melbourne, Florida to be closer to their daughter, Linda and her family. Their son, Steve, relocated a few years later to Melbourne reuniting the family for the past 15 years. He was a faithful member of Eau Gallie First Baptist Church for 15 years. His wife, Evelyn, and his two children, Linda LeBoeuf (Husband-Ken) and Steven Woods (Wife-Tami) survive him. He has a total of four grandchildren, two who were raised locally, Angie and Amy LeBoeuf, and one great-grandchild Samantha Woods of Alabama. He was preceded in death by his brother Jack Woods, his parents and many loving aunts and uncles who were a big part of his life. Walter was loved and respected by all and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Visitation will be from 10-11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 24, 2011 at Beach Funeral Home, Melbourne, the service will begin at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel. Interment will follow at Florida Memorial Gardens in Rockledge after the conclusion of the service with military honors provided by the U.S. Navy.
