Obituary of George F. Risi

Dr. George Franklin Risi, died Saturday, July 9, 2011 at Indian River Center in Melbourne, FL. He was born in Minotola, NJ. George received his college degree from St. Joseph's College and his medical degree from Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, PA. His internship was preformed at St. Luke's and Children's Medical Center in Boston, MA. He was a member of the American Academy of Orthopedics and the American Academy of Spinal Surgeons. George was chief of Orthopedics at the US Naval Hospital in Jacksonville, FL. Dr. Risi moved to Melbourne in 1962 and established his medical practice which later became Risi, Maxwell and Seig, PA. He was affiliated with Holmes Regional Medical Center. An avid outdoorsman, he was a transatlantic yachtsman and open ocean sport fisherman. George established Suzanna Farms in Whitefish, Montana raising performance quarter horses and Tennessee walking horses as well as providing a training facility for Polish Arabian show horses. He enjoyed his woodworking hobby and created many pieces of fine furniture. George built and oversaw an ocean front restaurant in Melbourne Beach by the name of Pepper Cove. He was predeceased by his first wife, Eugenia, the mother of his children, brother Leroy and daughter, Michelle. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Sue. George's children include son, George, his wife, Willa and their son, Milan; daughters, Addie, Ramona (Tom) and Pamela. George was a caring but private man who requested his life be celebrated privately. His family will honor his wishes. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your local animal shelter.
