Obituary of John Francis Flanagan

John Francis Flanagan Jr. - Satellite Beach - John "Rusty" Flanagan, 53, passed away at 5:20 a.m., Saturday, August 13th, 2011 at Wuesthoff Hospice Center, due to squamous cell carcinoma. Rusty was born to parents John Francis and Barbra Ann on Dec. 30, 1957 in Ft. Lauderdale Fl, where he spent his entire childhood. At 25, he moved to Satellite Beach with bride, Delora "Dede" Hull, and had three wonderful children. He began his path towards nursing at Brevard Community College in the early 1990's, and eventually had the pleasure to work several years for Ray and Andrea Doodnauth, at Your Second Home Adult Day Care Center as the nurse administrator. Rusty's life was filled with laughter, joy, and charisma. To Satellite's younger generation, he was known as "Sue." An experienced man, he always had the advice you couldn't get from anyone else. He was gifted in the ability to lead and motivate anyone, and his laugh was incredibly contagious. His kids and their friends depended on him for guidance, his endless words of wisdom, or even shelter for a few nights. He was truly one of a kind, and his legend will forever live on in all of our hearts. Rusty is survived by children, Courtney Rae, 21, Britney Ann, 19, and Dustin Collin, 17. Also survived by brother, Terry Flanagan and sister, Lisa Jones; his lifetime friends, Bob "B" Coningsby, Steve "Goat" Gotickison, Bob "Wheats" Kelly, and so many others whose lives he touched. He is predeceased by father, John and mother, Barbra, ex-wife Dede, and lifetime friend Rick "Lung" Magriene. Memorial gathering will be at 9:45 a.m., Saturday, August 20th at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church.
