Obituary of Samuel Nelson Parmarter

Samuel N. Parmarter Sr. of Indian Harbour Beach, FL passed away on Sept. 6, 2011. Born in North East, PA in 1934, Sam graduated from St. Gregory's High School. Sam was drafted by the Army and served as a Special Weapons Ordnance Technician. MSG Parmarter retired in 1977 after 22 years of service. While on active duty, Sam graduated with a history degree from Chaminade University of Hawaii. He continued his graduate history studies at the University of Alabama-Huntsville. Following his Army service, Sam studied broadcasting at Calhoun College in Alabama before establishing a career directing TV commercials, and lending his vocal talents as a radio DJ and TV voice-overs. Sam also landing multiple roles acting in Army training films. Sam concluded his working years while designing technical instruction for many defense contracting firms. An avid enthusiast of anything technical, Sam possessed an encyclopedic knowledge of many subjects, most notably automobiles and airplanes. After becoming a somewhat acclaimed writer in his youth, Sam's love of literature continued throughout his adult life. He voraciously consumed novels right up until his passing, especially historical and science fiction. Sam will also be remembered and a loving husband, a youth soccer coach, and a member of the Moose Lodge and American Legion. Sam is predeceased by his parents Ruth and Paul Parmarter, and brothers Richard and David Parmarter. He is survived by his wife of 45 years Patricia (Cieslak) originally from Erie, PA, his son Samuel Jr of Rockledge, FL, his sisters Mary Waterhouse, Patricia Christensen, Jessie Parmarter, Denise Conley, and his brothers Thomas, John, Gerard, and Gregory. A memorial gathering and visitation will be held at Beach Funeral Home in Indian Harbour Beach from 12:00-2:00 pm., Saturday, September 10, 2011. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a memorial donation be made to the Wounded Warrior Project (https://support.woundedwarriorproject.org/).
