Ray and I were stationed together and worked together in Okinawa in the 1970's. He and his skills was very valuable to the 400th Munitions Maintenance Squadron (MMS) and Pacific Air Command (PACAF) in the Pacific area. He was the master mind of all explosive site plans for the explosive storage and maintenance facilities of the 400th MMS. After the end of the Vietnam conflict, PACAF retained all surplus explosives within the Pacific area. Ray was extremely generous to me when I was later stationed in South Korea during that time and was required to double the size of the Explosive Storage Area at Osan Air Base, South Korea. With his assistance and readily offering of his extremely professional expertise of the Air Force explosive site planning requirements I was enabled to satisfy the storage and maintenance requirements for the additional explosives which PACAF directed to be transported and stored at Osan. Ray and I maintained communications through out the following years. When I was ready for retirement from the Air Force, Ray provided me insight into the availability of contractual employment at the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida. With his concern as a friend and very close Pal, I was able to retire from the Air Force on a Friday, June 1982, from Barksdale Air Force Base, Louisiana and start to work for Pan Am Air Lines at the Ordnance Storage Area 2, Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Florida on the following Monday morning. He will be greatly missed and I pray for his family and that he may rest in peace.
