Obituary of Eleni Longwell

Eleni Longwell passed away peacefully while surrounded by loved ones at her home in Orlando, Florida, on May 31st, 2020.

Eleni began her amazing life journey in Patras, Greece, where the mountains meet the crystal clear Mediterranean Sea. With the love and support of her parents, George and Vasiliki Karavidas, and younger siblings, Olga, Maria and Niko, Eleni grew into a young lady who loved the beauty of life.  She loved the beauty of God’s creations: the sea, the mountains, a rainbow, or a sunset; the beauty of the arts: a ballet, a symphony, an opera, a sculpture, a painting or architecture; the beauty of gathering with loved ones. She loved creating beautiful experiences, and she found the most joy when she could share them with others.  People often express how they were treated like royalty when they would visit Eleni.

Eleni was full of love, wonderment, passion, elegance, and grace.  She had a life-long yearning to experience everything the world had to offer.  Her life was rich with wonderful experiences shared by her huge family and her countless friends. Wherever she went, Greece, Australia, Hawaii, Asia, Africa, Europe, or even just at home, Eleni always immersed herself in the culture.  She was always surrounded by family, and she created innumerable lifelong friendships.  Many considered her a second mother.

Eleni loved life, and she lived it to the fullest.  She was abundant, strong, independent, beautiful and graceful.  She was a wonderful wife to my father and a great mother to her children. She will be missed.  

Eleni is survived by her adoring husband, Robert J. Longwell; her children, Jason (Whitney) Longwell, Mark (Athena) Longwell, as well as nine grandchildren; her siblings, Olga (Yiannis) Vomvoridis, Nikos (Katerina) Karavidas, Maria Karavida, and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 2, 2020, at 11:00 am, at St. Katherine’s Greek Orthodox Church, 5965 N.
