Obituary of James William Kay

James William Kay, 78 of Melbourne Beach, FL, passed away peacefully at his home on July 9, 2020 surrounded by his loving family and dear friends. Jim was born on April 5, 1942 in Niagara Falls, NY. He was the son of the late Robert and Lucille (Hanson) Kay. 

 

Jim grew up in Niagara Falls and then went to college at Salem (W.VA) University where he met the love of his life, Linda Kay Bennett. They were married on September 19, 1963 in Akron, OH. They enjoyed singing in the choir together and Jim’s favorite song to sing was Danny Boy. 

 

Jim had a lifelong career with the Boy Scouts of America beginning in Highland Park, NJ and after 42 years of professional service, he retired in 2007. He gave selflessly of his time and spirit to many organizations over his lifetime. Besides helping others he enjoyed golfing, fishing, and cooking. 

 

Jim is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Linda, daughter Colleen Kay (Melbourne Beach, FL/Denver, CO), and her husband Ben Bunte and his only granddaughter Tatym whom he loved to the moon and back.

 

Jim is also survived by his wonderful brother Howard (Youngstown, NY) and his wife Judy as well as many adoring cousins, nieces, nephews, and caring friends.

 

He was predeceased by his brave brother Roger (Beverly (Kay) Pietraallo) (Westerly, RI) and his amazing sister Karen Jablonski (Robert Jablonski) (Grand Island, NY) who was the matriarch of the family. 

 

Jim will be missed and loved by all that knew him. Who you were made a difference!

 

A memorial will be held at a later date. To honor Jim’s memory, In lieu of flowers donations to your local Boy Scouts of America council or favorite animal shelter would be appreciated.
