Mary Schmidt

Obituary of Mary Ellen Schmidt

On March 23, 2021 Mary Ellen (Roberts) Schmidt, age 78, passed in her sleep at her assisted living home in Melbourne, FL, no longer suffering from her limitations due to Parkinson’s.  She was born October 20, 1942 in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin daughter of Richard Joseph and Mary Patricia (Brockway) Roberts.

After her marriage in 1967 to Robert Schmidt she started her new life in Shorewood, Wisconsin.

As a mother and wife her patience was tested, but she was always there to help with homework, welcomed guests, and put up with a lot of shenanigans from her three children. Although not always on time, she got the family to where they needed or wanted to be. Her and Robert enjoyed driving and going to car shows with the Triumph club in their TR6 for many years. They moved the family to Indian Harbour Beach, FL in 1983.

She was always dedicated to education in herself, becoming Valedictorian of her class at Horace Mann High School, and to others, as she became a high school teacher, tutor and then a math learning specialist at Brevard Community College where she retired after 20 years.

She loved classical music, playing her piano, and singing in choral groups.  She belonged to the Brevard Community College Chorus and for 25 years dedicated many Sundays to the Holy Name of Jesus Church Choir.

In her later years she downsized and moved to Melbourne, FL where she enjoyed playing cards, visiting with her grandchildren, dog sitting her grand-dog, seeing old friends, and always ready to give a cheer to her favorite football team, the Packers, with a good beer!

Survivors include her children David (Susan) Schmidt of Valrico, FL, Amy (Daniel) Dvorak of Merritt Island, FL, and Daniel Schmidt of Winter Springs, FL, grandchildren Joseph, Rose, and Daniel Dvorak, Alyssa and Caitlin Schmidt, sister Marceline Roberts of Milwaukee, WI, brother Joseph (Shirley) Roberts of Fond du Lac, former husband Robert Schmidt of Melbourne, FL and many loving nieces, nephews and friends. Predeceased by her parents and brother James Roberts of Fond du Lac, WI.

April 6, 2021 Services will be held at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church in Indialantic. Visitation at 12:30pm with a mass to follow at 1:00pm and burial of the ashes in the memorial garden immediately thereafter.

Donations can be made in her name to the loving and supportive caregivers of
