Janice Augustine

Obituary of Janice J Augustine

Janice Joyce Augustine passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Sept.11th. She came into this world on Sept. 23, 1938. Affectionately known as “Cookie”, she was the youngest of eight children born to Elmer Byerly and Francis (Rissmiller) Byerly in Reading, PA.

She spent her early life in the Reading area and later in Philadelphia until she relocated to Florida with her own young family. Janice enjoyed her time as a homemaker and made sure her values of Faith & Family were always present in the household. As her family grew, she also contributed to the local community with countless hours of volunteer service, mostly through the Catholic Church. Cookie eventually became the Director of the S. Brevard Sharing Center.

As her children moved through high school and away from home, Janice began to focus the second part of her life on Caregiving. This second career would take her down to the Palm Beach area where she would enjoy the next 30 years of her life contributing to the well-being of others.

She loved cooking for people and sharing her skills and recipes with anyone who asked. Holidays were her favorite and she would always make sure her family and friends had a Merry Christmas. She had a wonderful heart and will be missed by all.

She leaves behind her 3 children. Laurie Wood (Doug), Ed Augustine (Whitney) and Andrea Cattaneo (John). She had 7 grandchildren, Kevin, Korey, Dominick, Kylie, Jack, Logan & Nicholas along with 2 great-grandchildren, Kordelia and Sebastian. She is also survived by her brother Richard, nephew Barry, nieces Doris and Jane along with numerous other relatives throughout the country. Services will be private and scheduled for a later date.

The family would like to express our sincere thanks to the staff of Life Care Center of Melbourne and the special people at Vitas Hospice who cared for and comforted Janice over the last few months. In lieu of flowers, please celebrate Cookie with a donation to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital 501 St. Judes Place Memphis, TN 38105. Click Here To Donate
