Obituary of Dorothy Engel

Dorothy Louise Engel, 87, of Satellite Beach, Florida passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on February 24, 2023, at Zon Beachside.  She was born on August 26, 1935, in Bethel Park, Pennsylvania to Frank and Sophie King.  Dorothy grew up the daughter of a coal miner with 8 brothers and sisters.  She married Frederick H. Engel, Jr. on July 12, 1958, and she and Fred moved to Satellite Beach in 1959.  Dorothy “Dot” and Fred raised 4 children on the Space Coast enjoying the beaches, the beautiful weather and wonderful times with family and friends.  Dorothy volunteered at Sea Park Elementary, Holmes Regional and worked the voting polls.  She is remembered as a devoted wife and mother and beloved grandmother, “Myma”.   Dorothy spent her final years at Zon Beachside battling Alzheimer’s disease with the care and support of her family and the loving staff.  Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband, Fred, her parents, and her siblings.   

Dorothy is survived by her 4 children Cindy Engel, Fred Engel (Kathy), Laura Flynn (Bob) and Christie Hopper (Woodie) and 9 grandchildren Heather (Josh) Norris, Rachel Engel, Morgan Flynn, Samantha Flynn, Brooke Engel, Bailey Flynn, Nicholas Hopper, Benjamin Hopper, and Lauren Hopper. 

 A celebration of Dorothy’s life will be held on June 3, 2023.  Details will follow.
