Obituary of Wolfgang Schaller

Wolfgang Schaller, 83, of Merritt Island, FL passed away at home with his loving family on February 23rd, 2023 after a trying battle with colon cancer.

Wolfgang was born on May 25th, 1939 to Gustav and Helene Schaller in Eschelbach, Germany.  He attended school in Germany and went on to study telephone systems.

After his schooling, Wolfgang came to the United States in 1961.  He worked as a delivery driver for his sponsoring family.  He was drafted by the U.S. Army not long after.  He served the United States in Korea.  His knowledge of telephone systems earned him a position in the area of communications in the Army.  When he returned from duty in 1965 he received his United States citizenship.  A country he has been proud to live in since then. When his service to the United States was fulfilled, Wolfgang worked in the airline catering industry, providing meals for airlines such as Braniff, Eastern, and TWA.  He moved to New Orleans, LA and continued working for Marriott Catering.

In February 1972, Wolfgang met Veronica Barnett at Mardi Gras in New Orleans, LA.  They fell in love and were married in Las Vegas, NV eight months later.  Wolfgang and Veronica lived in Metairie, LA where they had their son Michael.  The family moved to Miami and soon after found their way to Brevard County.  Wolfgang ran the kitchen at Florida Institute of Technology before becoming a small business owner.

In the late ‘70’s he bought a supply business.  From there he turned it into a swimming pool service and repair business known as Beach Pool Service.  He was a “one poler” as many would say, doing all the work himself.  Over time he built the company to have seven different pool routes.  Wolfgang was a hardworking man, determined to provide for his family and give them a comfortable life. His work ethic was beyond reproach.

Wolfgang was also a passionate craftsman who could be found tinkering, fixing, and building things in his house in Indialantic.  He enjoyed the challenge of constructing most of the addition to his family’s home.  He wanted to try to do everything himself.

Anyone who knew Wolfgang knew that he cared deeply about those that he loved.  Tough love was his way of showing it.  He would tell you like it is but always have your back.  He would always be there when you needed him.  He wanted those he loved to be successful in all they did.

Wolfgang was predeceased by his mother, Helene and his father Gustav. He is survived by his wife Veronica, son Michael, daughter Rosanna (Jason), and grandson Gabriel.

Memorial will take place on March 10, 2023 at Beach Funeral Home in Indian Harbour Beach, FL.  Visitation from 5-6pm and Service from 6-7pm.
