Obituary of Rosa De Oliveira Pinhal

Rosa de Oliveira Pinhal, 99, of Cape Canaveral passed away on Thursday, April 28, 2023 at Advent Health Hospice Care. She was born on April 28, 1924 in a rural town in Portugal. She was the third of nine children. Most of her siblings helped out in the fields, but she liked to cook and sew at home.

Rosa promised her parents not to marry until age 25 if they allowed her to attend sewing school and get a degree which she did.

Rosa met her future husband, Manuel, who was from the city of Lisbon. He showed up on a 10-speed bike which no one in town had ever seen.

They married in May of 1949. She was 25. They moved to Lisbon and had two children, Aida and Fernando.

Rosa had a business from home as a seamstress. In March of 1966 they immigrated to the USA and settled in Perth Amboy, New Jersey. There she worked at Macys doing alterations on bridal gowns.

In 1978 they moved to sunny Florida and build a home in Cape Canaveral.

Ten years later they retired back to Portugal to enjoy the good weather and their native culture until Manuel passed in 2015. She then returned to Florida with her children to live the rest of her life.  

Health eating and staying active were her passions. Rosa faith in Jesus was very strong and she loved to pray the rosary. She also loved gardening and watching plants grow.

Rosa is survived by her two siblings, Fernando and Femanda, her two children, Aida and Fernando, and their spouses, Victor and Winnie. Rosa has five grandkids, Ricky, Natalie, Christina, Morgan and Brittney; six great grandkids, Isabella, Christian, Jonathan, Cienna, Max and Ella.

Family and friends are welcome to Devine Mercy Catholic Community Church on Friday, August 4, 2023, from 2:30 p.m. until the Mass of Christian Burial at 3:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Florida Memorial Gardens, Rockledge, FL.
