He was born on Oct 23, 1920 in Bahia Brazil.  He was the son of a diplomat and spent his youth in Oslo Norway. His summers were spent sailing and winters skiing.

Skiing would become a lifelong passion and he skied well into his seventies.

As the war with Germany was becoming evident, his parents felt he should be in the United States and sent him to school in Virginia.  He attended Randolph Macon Academy. After high school he attended Washington and Lee University until the US entered the war at which time he enlisted in the Army.  The year was 1942.  At this time he joined the Army Air Corps and went to flight school to become a fighter pilot.

He served for 28 years including two tours of duty in Vietnam flying F105s.  In 1966 he was shot down and had to eject.

He married Vivian Shannon in December of 1943 they were married 65 years until her death in 2009. They spent their retirement living in Florida and Maine where they had many friends, and dogs! So many dogs from bassets to standard poodles.

He is survived by his son Richard A Bevan III (JoAnn) and daughter Betty Bevan.  Two of his sons predeceased him, Tom Bevan and William Bevan.  He has 2 grandchildren, Kelly Davidson and Ian Eddy and one great granddaughter Harper Davidson.

He was a kind and generous man.  We miss him.
